A Promise to Keep: Tribute to My Mother

Home » A Promise to Keep: Tribute to My Mother

Walking alone by the seashore,
The lonely night and my companion,
Up above, staring at me,
As if tracing my footsteps.

Oh! I feel a little shiver in my legs,
Yeah, its not unusual, I realize.
The dead face of mine with stone eyes,
Without any feelings, any emotions,
Searching for someone lost away,
Long, long ago, but still alive.
Alive in my heart, in me,
Giving me eternal company.

There I reach a place,
A place not unknown to me.
A place where time loses its glory,
And there is no definition of parity.

Here I stand again at her doorstep,
The verge of her silent grave,
Watching steadily, if she could realize,
If she could realize in her eternal sleep,
That she’s still alive in me,
In my heart, in my memories,
Untamed by the decay of time,
Untouched by falsity.

And I turn back,
Bidding goodbye to her again,
With the usual murmuring,
“May your soul rest in peace,
May you live in my heart eternally.”

And I keep my promise here again, I whisper,
“That I’ll never leave you lonely.”
